چکیده

Since the introduction of the alpha function by Rall in 1967 [12], there has been signi cant progress in our understanding of the molecular events underlying synaptic transmission. Particular receptor types have been identi ed and their activation kinetics characterized. It is now possible to develop models of these receptors, using a formalism similar to that introduced by Hodgkin and Huxley [9]. In this paper, we present recently-introduced models obtained by simplifying more detailed biophysical models of postsynaptic receptors [7]. The simpli ed models are fully compatible with the Hodgkin-Huxley formalism, are very e cient to simulate, and account for important phenomena such as synaptic summation and desensitization. These models should be useful in large-scale network simulations.

Postnatal developmental alterations in the locus coeruleus neuronal fast excitatory postsynaptic currents mediated by ionotropic glutamate receptors of rat

Introduction: In the present work, spontaneous postsynaptic currents were assessed to investigate the postnatal development of excitatory postsynaptic currents in locus coeruleus neurons. Methods: In this study, AMPA and NMDA receptor-mediated spontaneous synaptic currents in the neurons of locus coeruleus were assessed using whole cell voltage-clamp recording during the first three weeks. ...

Prolonged reciprocal signaling via NMDA and GABA receptors at a retinal ribbon synapse.

AMPA and GABAA receptors mediate most of the fast signaling in the CNS. However, the retina must, in addition, also convey slow and sustained signals. Given that AMPA and GABAA receptors desensitize quickly in the continuous presence of agonist, how are sustained excitatory and inhibitory signals transmitted reliably across retinal synapses? Reciprocal synapses between bipolar and amacrine cell...

Neurotransmitters and Receptors Changes in Medial Nucleus of the Trapezoid Body (MNTB) of Early-Developmental Rats with Single-Side Deafness

BACKGROUND Congenital single-side deafness (SSD) affects sound localization even after cochlear implantation (CI) in some conditions. The medial nucleus of the trapezoid body (MNTB) plays an important role in binaural benefit and sound localization, but little is known about intrinsic molecular changes in MNTB with SSD. We aimed to observe changes in MNTB in early-developmental SSD rats, includ...

AMPA, NMDA and GABAA receptor mediated network burst dynamics in cortical cultures in vitro

In this work we study the excitatory AMPA, and NMDA, and inhibitory GABAA receptor mediated dynamical changes in neuronal networks of neonatal rat cortex in vitro. Extracellular network-wide activity was recorded with 59 planar electrodes simultaneously under different pharmacological conditions. We analyzed the changes of overall network activity and network-wide burst frequency between baseli...
